Our Driver Education Course is broken into two different phases:
|The Classroom Phase||The Driving Phase|
|The classroom phase covers all major driver education issues, with an emphasis on safety and defensive driving that will appeal to all new drivers. All major driving methods are covered, including SIPDE, Smith system and IPDE. The focus is on practical solutions to everyday situations, with thoughtful coverage of such subjects as driving under the influence, sharing the road, challenging driving conditions and aggressive driving. Thought-provoking scenarios and evaluation questions in each chapter engage the student, provide a wealth of discussion material, and encourage active learning.||The on-the-street instruction driving phase will begin after the classroom phase has been successfully completed. The student will be contacted to schedule driving sessions. All driving is done in automatic transmission cars. Please Note: The driving phase could take several weeks to complete depending on instructor availability and student schedules.
A $25 fee will be imposed for driving cancellations with less than 24 hours notice or for arriving for a session unprepared to drive. Example: no permit.
|A minor who is fifteen years of age or older, and has completed and passed a department approved driver education course within the last six months may apply for a minor’s instruction permit. The classroom phase must be successfully completed and the student must have a Minors Instruction Permit before driving on the street. On the last day of class, students will be given the Colorado State Permit Test.|
|Attendance is MANDATORY! Absences can be difficult to make up and will delay moving on to the driving phase. Do not sign up for a class if you cannot attend all sessions.
|All classes will meet at Moffat County High School Room 220
The fee for both phases is $200. There will be no refund of the fee once the class has started.
Students may take the Colorado State Driving Test after they have held their permit for one year and have logged 50 hours of driving time.
Our instructor can provide the drive test for $20 or the student may take the drive test at a Division of Motor Vehicle Office.
