Meet the Board Members

Sandra G. Johns
President
Sandie Johns was active in public education, serving the needs of adults and K-12 students, for 30 years prior to her retirement. She graduated from Anchorage High School, Alaska, attended the University of Alabama and holds a vocational education degree from Oregon State University.
Her career experiences began as a county agent and moved into secondary education where she was a classroom teacher, vocational job development specialist and career/college counselor at Moffat County High School in Craig. She is currently working during ski season as a passenger service representative for American Airlines. Mrs. Johns is married and has 3 adult sons and eight grandchildren. Her term expires in 2009. Karen Stillion
Vice President
Karen Stillion has been a board member since November 2005. She graduated from high school in Reno, Nevada in 1984. She completed an Associates of Applied Science in May 2008. She is married with three children. Karen has been employed for the last five years by Colorado Northwestern Community College as a Cosmetology Instructor.

Christine Balderston
Secretary
Christine Balderston was elected to the Board of Education in 2009. She attended and graduated from high school in Northglenn, Colorado. She continued her education with a Bachelors of Science degree in Microbiology and a Bachelors of Science degree in Medical Technology from Colorado State University. Christine followed a career path into Medical Technology, where she also received a Diploma from Presbyterian/St. Luke’s School of Medical Technology.
After being transferred by her husband’s company, Christine and her husband, Mark, moved to Craig in 1999 with their two children. |
Christine’s daughter is currently attending college at the University of Northern Colorado, and her son is a freshman at Moffat County High School. Christine enjoys scrapbooking and reading in her spare time.
Christine has played an active roll in her children’s education. She volunteered to support school functions and activities for both children. Christine attended her first PAC (Parent Advisory Committee) meeting at Sunset Elementary shortly after moving to town, and has been active with the PAC’s for Sunset Elementary, Craig Intermediate, Craig Middle, and Moffat County High School.

Tony St. John
Member
Tony St. John, a resident of Craig, Colorado for 28 years, is serving his first term on the Board of Education. Tony is a graduate of Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, California and has two years at Oceanside Jr. College. Tony is also a veteran of the United State Marine Corps. Tony spent 20 years working for Colowyo Coal Co. and is now retired.

Valley Y.M.C.A, past President of Craig Chamber of Commerce, past city councilman, involved in AAU Boys/Girls Basketball and currently working with the Craig Police Safety Belt Award Program which is in its 14th year.
Tony is married, has four grown children, Tracie Lynn, Nicole Cherice, Tyrone and Jesica Rene who all graduated from Moffat County High School. Tony’s hobbies include, boating, fishing, keeping in touch with his children and playing with his nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

J.B. Chapman
Member
J.B. Chapman, a fourth generation resident and 1984 graduate of Moffat County High School, was elected to the board of education in November of 2011. J.B. and his wife Paula, also a graduate of Moffat County High, own and operate Chapman's Automotive, in Craig. Their children, Natasha and Nathan, graduated from Moffat County High School in 2007 and 2011, respectively. Both are furthering their education at colleges in Wyoming. The Chapmans are also involved in their family's hunting and ranching operations, producing dry land hay and purebred and crossbred swine. |
J.B. also serves on the Moffat County Vo-Ag Advisory Board, the CNCC Automotive Program Steering Committee, the Moffat County 4-H Foundation, and leads the 24/7 teen youth group at The Journey at First Baptist Church. He enjoys time spent with his family, upland bird and big game hunting, and is a swine industry enthusiast.

Joel Browning
Member
Joel Browning is a 2003 graduate of Moffat County High School in Craig, Colorado. After high school, he continued his education at Front Range Community College in Ft. Collins, Colorado. After spending a year studying HVAC and Refrigeration, he moved back to Craig, Colorado and worked as a tech for Masterworks Mechanical. Later, Joel worked for his brother, Jeremy, at Chaos Ink printing garments. In 2008, he bought Identity Graphics in Craig. Joel married is wife, Cori, in August of 2012 and they are currently expecting a baby. He has been a Moffat County resident for 28 years.

Joel spent 7 years volunteering for Bear River Young Life, where he spent time mentoring high school students. Joel is looking forward to getting involved in our school system.

Lawrence Sober
Member
Lawrence Sober served in the US Army for eight years. He worked at different positions in the trucking industry for 40 years before retiring. Lawrence graduated from Erie High School in Erie, Colorado. He attended the University of Montana for two years where his major was Sociology. He went on to graduate from the University of Phoenix with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management. He also has a Project Management Certificate from Villanova University.
