Moffat County School District
SPORTS PHYSICALS
All middle school and high school students planning to participate in athletics during the 2014-2015 school year must have a current physical.  TMH Clinic (in old hospital building on Russell Street) will offer sports physicals July 24th from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM.  The cost is $15.00. Forms can be printed from the links below or picked up at the Yampa Building Administration Offices @ 775 Yampa Ave.

Mission
“Our students will independently grow and learn in a safe, positive, and challenging atmosphere where faculty, staff, and parents are enthusiastic about the teaching and learning process.”

         We will:
                • work together in Professional Learning Communities;
                • seek and implement evidence-based strategies for improving student achievement on a                                            continuing basis; and
                • reach higher achievement for all students.

Academic achievement is given top priority. Proficiency in the core academics is emphasized and students are encouraged to develop their academic strengths. 

Students receive a quality education at Moffat County School District. The efforts of teachers, support staff and administrators, along with parental involvement, enable the students in Moffat County Schools to develop the skills and self-confidence needed to succeed in the world of the 21st century.  Over 60% of the students who graduate from Moffat County High School attend college, while others enroll in technical or vocational schools. In addition to academic and college preparatory courses, a diverse vocational and technical curriculum is offered.  Moffat County High School is also proud of its numerous successful extracurricular activities and athletic teams.

The School District
Moffat County School District is the only school district in Moffat County, which spans an area of 4,836 square miles and serves approximately 2400 students Preschool through 12th grade.  

Craig is the largest community in the district and is home to Moffat County High School, Craig Middle School, Early Childhood Center and five Elementary schools, one of which is a small rural school located in Maybell CO.  


Many of the students in the district are transported to school by bus. The District's 25 buses transport roughly a thousand students each day.

Recreation
A diverse range of outdoor, activities attract residents and visitors alike to the expanse of northwestern Colorado. From mountains to river canyons, to high plains deserts, there is something for every outdoor appetite.

Sportsmen know this part of Colorado for some of the best hunting and fishing in the country. A large big game population and a remarkably high success rate make northwest Colorado the best place for Colorado trophy hunting. Abundant rainbow, brook and brown trout, as well as pike thrive in the crystal clear Yampa River.

West of Craig, the Yampa River winds into Dinosaur National Monument...through deep, cool canyons and past ancient Indian petroglyphs. The canyons provide a hiking exploring experience unequaled in the country. The Green and the Yampa Rivers offer an unbeatable combination of exhilarating, expert white water and placid stretches wandering through towering cliffs.

Winter fun enthusiasts will love the variety of winter sports in northwestern Colorado. Nearby Steamboat Springs offers world-class skiing. The mountains surrounding the lush Yampa Valley provide some of the best cross-country skiing and snowmobiling country in Colorado. Miles of groomed trails and thousands of acres of untouched sparkling powder await the outdoorsmen.

Location
Craig is situated in the northwest corner of Colorado. Moffat County is the second largest county in the state, long noted for cattle and sheep ranching, as well as a wheat growing area. Currently, energy producers are the largest total group of employers in the county. The population of Moffat County is approximately 13,000 with 11, 000 in Craig.

Craig is the hub of shopping in northwest Colorado and is experiencing moderate growth, which enhances community resources and housing availability.  The town boasts a community college – Colorado Northwestern Community, a new hospital currently under construction, numerous parks, a wave pool as well as a beautiful 18-hole golf course along the Yampa River.  Craig is connected to the world via air service available at Yampa Valley Regional Airport located 17 miles east of Craig in nearby Hayden CO.

Climate The climate is one of low humidity, bright sunshine and a moderate to cool temperature range. Annual precipitation is approx. 14 inches and, on average, there are 325 days of blue skies and sunshine.
